Our season opens 6th August 2023 - first rally to be held Sunday 27th August

About our branch

Otumoetai Te Puna Pony Club is a branch of Tauranga Pony Club, based on its own 10 acre grounds in Teihana Road Te Puna.  We hold about 20 ridden rallies a year and these ridden rallies are included in the cost of your membership.  In addition, we offer unmounted Horse Management rallies to support our members with knowledge about caring for their horse.  These are subsidised by the branch but we usually charge a small fee for a block of HM lessons.

We hold a long weekend Camp in January at McLarens Falls Park where adult and junior riders camp with their ponies (or choose to have a proper bed in the lodge).  Camp tends to be a combination of formal lessons along with fun challenges, hacking out and games.  There is an additional cost for this each year based on the cost of hiring the lodge and the events we run during the camp.

As we own our own grounds we require all our members to come along to a number of working bees every year to keep our grounds up to scratch. The return on this is that our members get to use our grounds and facilities for free at their convenience throughout the year.  Attached to our grounds is the part of the Omokoroa Tauranga cycleway and horse riders are allowed shared access to this between Teihana Road and Lochhead Road.

Our People

We use quality instructors who are supportive to riders and horses of all levels.  Our aim is to help you achieve your own goals whether they be learning to rise to the trot or compete at Pony Club Champs.  Our beginner riders get the same super quality instruction that our most competitive riders get.  Our committee are a friendly group of supportive people from varying backgrounds. We work together to achieve the best outcomes for our members.

As part of Tauranga and BOP Pony Club, our junior members get to qualify and compete at Area and National competitions and events throughout the year.  There are no competitions provided by Tauranga or BOP for Adult riding members at the moment hence adult riding membership Is cheaper than junior rider membership.  As part of our commitment to Tauranga Pony Club we also ask that junior members parents get involved with Tauranga branch in whatever way they can, working bees at McLarens Falls Park, managing a team or joining the Tauranga PC Committee.

Fees

Our Junior Membership (under 25) is $265 a year which includes NZPCA, TPC and BOPPC levies.  An adult responsible membership is required per family that includes an under 18 member.  The fee for this is $25 which includes $15 NZPCA levy.

NB We prefer that you only pay the NZPCA part of your membership via the automated membership process. Ideally, we would like you to pay the remainder of your fees directly into our bank account as this helps our branch cash flow stay positive over winter.
