Welcome to the Maryland Dressage Association wink

The Maryland Dressage Association (MDA) is a nonprofit organization established in 1982, committed to advancing the disciplines of classical and western dressage. As a Group Member Organization of the United States Dressage Federation, the MDA fosters education, active participation, and collaborative efforts within Maryland's equestrian community. Our mission is to promote excellence in horsemanship, sportsmanship, and the progressive development of riders and horses through meticulously organized programs and events.

History and Development

Founded as a nonprofit entity in 1982, the Maryland Dressage Association has dedicated over four decades to cultivating a vibrant community centered on dressage. Emphasizing classical principles while integrating western dressage elements, the organization has adapted to evolving equestrian practices. Through educational initiatives, competitive events, and membership services, the MDA has significantly contributed to the regional advancement of the sport. Honorary Life memberships recognize enduring contributions from distinguished individuals, underscoring the association's commitment to long-term dedication and achievement.

Activities and Programs

The Maryland Dressage Association hosts a diverse array of activities to fulfill its mission, including schooling shows that comply with guidelines from the United States Dressage Federation, United States Equestrian Federation, and Western Dressage Association of America. These events encompass tests across various levels, with entries facilitated through Compete Easy at a standard fee of $30 per test. Participants are required to submit online entries, provide negative Coggins tests, and adhere to vaccination protocols. In addition to competitions, the association offers clinics, seminars, and specialized resources for junior and young riders. Members are invited to engage via the MDA Members and Friends Facebook group for timely updates and community interactions.

Membership

Membership in the Maryland Dressage Association is open to all individuals and organizations with a passion for dressage, with the membership year now extending from January 1 to December 31. To streamline our offerings and better align with member needs, we have transitioned to a simplified structure featuring two primary types: Full Member and Additional Family Member. All members in good standing enjoy comprehensive benefits, including voting rights at general meetings, eligibility for awards and events, and automatic group membership in the United States Dressage Federation upon processing, which typically requires six to eight weeks. Members must adhere to the organization's bylaws and standards of conduct. Applications are efficiently processed online through Compete Easy Clubs, and we encourage prospective members to join our vibrant MDA Members and Friends Facebook group for community engagement.

Membership Types

  • Full Member: Priced at $45 annually, this category is available to any individual and serves as the primary membership option, providing full access to all association privileges.
  • Additional Family Member: Intended for individuals residing at the same address as a Full Member, this option is offered at a reduced rate of $35 annually—reflecting a $10 discount in accordance with United States Dressage Federation guidelines—and extends equivalent privileges, with up to two voting adults per family unit.
